Hate Crime

The suspect in the shootings in Kansas City that killed three people has a long association with anti-Semitic and white-supremacist groups.

Police arrested the suspected shooter outside a nearby elementary school. He smiled and reportedly made anti-Semitic statements as he was led away.

The Kansas City Star reported that the suspect was Frazier Glenn Cross, a 73-year-old southwest Missouri man with a long history of anti-Semitic and racist statements and ties to the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi organizations.

Police said the man used a shotgun in the slayings at the Jewish Community Center. He also had a handgun when he was arrested, they said.

Authorities hauled off a four-door white car with Missouri license plates.

“We are investigating it as a hate crime,” said Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is familiar with the suspect.

Frazier Glenn Miller, 73, of Aurora, Mo., was arrested today for the murder of three people at two separate Jewish Community Centers in Overland Park, Kan. Miller, who was arrested using the alias Frazier Glenn Cross, has been in the movement nearly his entire life. Miller is the former “grand dragon” of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which he founded and ran in the 1980s before being sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for operating an illegal paramilitary organization and using intimidation tactics against African Americans.
