Heard This Before

To those of us of a certain age, hearing that the U.S. is sending military “advisers” into a civil war has a certain meaning and generates ominous echoes.

I’m sure the president has nothing but the best intentions and means it when he says that no combat troops back into Iraq, but still.

The next thing you know, someone’s warning us about dominoes, and I don’t mean the pizza purveyor.

5 barks and woofs on “Heard This Before

  1. Yup, the minute I read “military advisers”, the word Vietnam flashed before my eyes. History does repeat itself. And we never learn from it.

  2. As one of those “advisers” long after there was any pretense that is what we were doing there; I for one don’t want to go down that road again.

  3. He’s damned if he does and also if he doesn’t. Aren’t you glad you’re not POTUS these days? At the moment I’m trusting him to remember how dangerous this move is. The one thing I hold on to is Rachel’s calm reassurance and the fact that just beneath the radar Iraqis are being urged to purge Maliki. Also keep in mind he refers to the ISIL not ISIS. The difference is the recognition that the bad guys are all over the Levant, not just Iraq. No way can we from across the ocean do anything about the turmoil from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean coming soon and lasting long.

    Now about China’s ambitions ….
