Random Thought

Now that the U.S. team is out of the World Cup, how many people in America will stop pretending they like soccer?

  1. Thank goodness the Tour de France starts Saturday.

Don’t forget the NBA summer league starts the eleventh. Five X Gators will be participating.

    Go Gators!

  2. You’re too old to appreciate the game, apparently. According to my sources the Millenials grew up playing the game and they’re the ones who will continue to watch. Soccer is Americans kids’ favorite game after American football. We have a grandson played in school and in a local league who’s hooked and has brought his father along with him. I know that for my part I learned so much and got so excited I think my favorite game after baseball is now futbol.

    • I played soccer in high school (not very well). The problem it has meeting the level of American football and baseball is the lack of breaks; the clock never stops until the 45-minute mark. I blame it on short attention span syndrome.

  3. I’m sure there will be some dropoff. Maybe not so much where I live. Seattle is soccer crazy–the Sounders are well-supported and are leading the MLS western conference. Personally, I’ll continue to pay attention and will watch the final if I can.
