I’m truly sorry that a beloved lion died for sport in Zimbabwe, but I wonder why that generates so much attention while the same time people are being shot and killed or dying in police custody and it’s just another day in the news.

  1. You’re being a bit ridiculous, M.B. There has been plenty of coverage of police brutality toward humans. There are new stories even today. The wanton murder of a lion for a dentist’s trophy room deserves its own coverage. Nothing is disproportionate.

  2. (1) Animals have less agency than people, and therefore people are expected to be their stewards and proxies.
    (2) It isn’t an either/or. You can work for social justice and animal rights at the same time.
