Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) went to speak at Liberty University, the school founded by Jerry Falwell, yesterday. He didn’t hide his views, stating that he was in favor of a woman’s right to choose and for marriage equality, but he also spoke about finding common ground and disagreeing without rancor. He was received politely by the students at the attendance-required convocation.
By contrast, Donald Trump held a rally in Dallas last night that looked for all the world like a Nuremberg rally put on by the folks that produce professional wrestling. I know this because it preempted programming on cable TV.
I have my doubts about either Mr. Sanders or Mr. Trump being elected president, but I’ll give a lot more credit to Bernie for going into a place where he knew he would not get a lot of votes and talking sense than what passed for civil discourse in Dallas.
