On This Date

August 9, 1974.

Where were you?

I was in Perrysburg, Ohio, a month out of my NOLS program and three months after graduating from Miami, getting ready to go up to northern Michigan for a couple of weeks before finding a job. On that very day I had a dentist appointment but I got back in time to watch Nixon’s Lear speech to the staff and Ford’s swearing in.

2 barks and woofs on “On This Date

  1. I was a high school sophomore, probably getting ready to go back to school. I lived in a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, and was pretty clueless about politics. But I knew it was a big deal.

  2. Just starting 4th grade. My Aunt and Uncle were very Republican, but I don’t particularly remember any family talk about the resignation – but when you’re that age, politics isn’t really on your radar, and the adults probably talked about it while the kids weren’t around anyway.
