Vacuum sealed milks and cereal also, work well. Stay away from candy it will rob your strength. Keep OTC pain meds, ibuprofen and acetaminophen in case of sore muscles from digging out.
Nut butter is a good staple. Food can also be bagged in large bags. Evacuate if you can nothing is worth staying for.

Put refrigerated food into the freezing compartment for the duration. If the power goes out the freezer will keep cold for at least 48 hours. And don’t eat anything that “looks OK” because it probably isn’t. Only food that is canned or shrink wrapped is safe from flood’s dirty water. Don’t walk in that water – period. There’s likely to be chemical pollution, broken glass, or, as you say, downed electrical wiring.
If you choose to stick it out be prepared to sit in that safe room with your pets and your restless kids for at lease 48 hours – or longer. The power of the water shoved on shore will do more damage than the winds. So think about it and choose to evacuate. A good time is NOW.
