Sixty-three years ago — September 1960 — “The Flintstones” premiered on ABC. This is the original intro music — no lyrics, no “yaba daba doo!” — and the outro included a billboard for Winston cigarettes, the major sponsor. They even had a commercial where Fred and Barney were smoking in the backyard.
The concept was based loosely on “The Honeymooners,” although Hanna-Barbera denied any copycatting. It ran on network TV until 1966, but the theme was replaced after the second season with the familiar “Meet the Flintstones.” I like this one.
