March is the beginning of the march to daylight, literally and figuratively.  Even here in Florida we start to emerge from winter’s clutches, which means we switch the ceiling fans from updraft to down and give the A/C a jiggle to see if it still runs.  On the tenth we switch to Daylight Saving Time, and at some point in the middle of the month we go from less than twelve hours of daylight to more than.  The arrival of spring heralds the leaves falling from the live oaks so the new growth can begin, and baseball begins in earnest with Opening Day coming in April.  And then there’s spring break, that most adventurous time for college kids and the people who put up with them.  March madness applies to much more than basketball. But even with all of that, knowing that heat and hurricane season lies in wait, it’s good to see more sun than less.

So, welcome, March.  We’re ready.
