Charlie Pierce notes that Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has assured the rest of the planet that we Americans are “not like ‘The Borg’ of Star Trek.”
Over the next several weeks, I assume, West will assure us that the U.S. also is not the Romulan Empire, the Klingon Empire, the Ferengi, the Gorns, and probably not the inhabitants of Talos IV, either, although that might be an illusion.
Having defended America — and, by proxy, the Federation — Congressman West moves on to caution us not to listen to Barack Obama’s dangerous, leveling rhetoric:
Never forget that every time in the history of the world that a national leader has demagogued and demonized a targeted segment of society, it has ended up horribly for that country.
Captain, we’re about to enter the Great Nebula of Irony. Shall we go to Yellow Alert?
